The Czech Banat - a dying community or a region with prosperous future?
Blümelová, Iva ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Freidingerová, Tereza (referee)
The Czech Banát is an area in Romania where a populous Czech community lives in six typically Czech villages. It has preserved the Czech language, traditions, customs and the way of living for more than 180 years. After the change of the political regime in 1989 many inhabitants have abandoned these villages for Romanian cities or have returned back to the Czech Republic. This research deals with the history of settlement, the development of the size of the population, ways of a living and education in these villages. Based on research made in schools, the opinions and views of the young generation about their future life were explored. Because of the importance of the aid provided by the Czech Republic to this area, it is dealt with in an independent chapter. In the last section, the future of this community threatened by re-emigration is discussed.
Soil characteristics in relation to relief and land use around Sfinta Elena village in Banat, Romania
Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Chuman, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šefrna, Luděk (referee)
The thesis characterizes soils of the karst platform around Sf. Elena village established by Czech colonists in Romanian Banat. The emphasis is given to the relationships among soil chemical properties and different land use and relief. In the area, occurrence and distribution of soil types was mapped. The relief was found out to be the dominant factor determining soil chemical properties. It affects also the vegetation and land use. Among the different land use types the statistically significant difference was found mainly in organic carbon content, which is the main determinant of sorption capacity. Less favourable properties were found on arable land, where the low nutrient content was observed, too. It gives evidence of a depletion of the soil by farming.
The modern-days re-emigrants from the Romanian Banat, their expectations linked to resettlement, adaptation and integration in Czechia
Kresl, Zdeněk ; Freidingerová, Tereza (advisor) ; Horálek, Adam (referee)
First Czech villages were founded in the region of Banat, Romania, in the first half of the 19th century. The original impetus had come from the administration who intended to populate the mountainous regions of the then military border. To this day a none too numerous community of Czechs surrounded by other nations have kept their original Czech traditions, speak exclusively Czech, and proudly profess their roots. In the course of the 20th century these Czech villages were hit by three waves of re-emigration which resulted in a portion of the locals relocating to their ancestral country. The last wave of re-emigration began in 1989, following the reopening of the borders and the simplification of the whole process of relocation, and it essentially continues to this day. Young people in particular come to the Czech Republic hoping to find here a better job, higher wages and better quality of life, which goes hand in hand with it. These expectations are often exaggerated and unrealistic, though. The first part of this thesis presents a theoretical framework of the whole work, and a historical overview of the Czech community and the individual waves of re-emigration which affected it. Attention will also be paid to the continuous interest in this community on the part of the Czech authorities and...
Negotiating and understanding of the concept of home in the family of Czech re-emigrants from the Romanian Banat
Baudyšová, Jana ; Zandlová, Markéta (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
The diploma thesis is based on a seven-month research of a family of Czech re-emigrants from the Romanian Banat. The aim of the research was to find out how these people understand the term home, how they negotiate it and what they related to it; the method employed here consisted of qualitative interviews. The researched sample does not represent the whole population, but rather the studied issue. The main focus was to gather as much exhaustive (and therefore related to understanding, negotiating and constructing of the meaning of the concept home) data related to the issue of home as possible within the given family rather than any universal application or generalization of the collected data to the whole of the Czech re-emigrants from the Banat. The author defines the term home as multidimensional, stemming from an individual and group experience, and from the current situation of an individual person; and as such she tries to depict it through different theoretical concepts. The thesis also presents an outline of a historical-sociological context of the existence of a Czech minority in Romania and its re-emigration. In relation to the main topic of home also emerged other topics, such as motivations for re-emigration, perceptions of Romania and the Czech Republic, response of the majority...
The Aspect of Transnacionalism of the Re -emigrants from Romanien Banat
Mertlík, Arnošt ; Cirklová, Jitka (advisor) ; Wladyniak, Ludmila Maria (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the characteristics of transnational links with Romanian Banat re- emigrants who were born in Banat and now live in the Czech Republic. Attention is paid to the migration theory of transnationalism, which is based on the assumption that migrants continue to maintain relations with their country of origin, which the author tries to prove even in the case of the Banat Czechs. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the reader is briefed on the historical context of migration to Banat and re-emigration to the Czech Republic. Thereafter, the reader is familiar with the theory of transnationalism and its concepts. The heart of the thesis is qualitative research described in the practical part, in which the author carried out in-depth semi- structured interviews. Based on the analysis of these interviews, the work concludes that transnational identity of Banat's Czechs is uncertain. However, they as transmigrants form transnational networks beyond the borders that create a transnational field and keepkeep the Czechs in Banat in constant contact.
Syntactic analysis of Czech speakers in the Romanian Banat
Vyskočilová, Karolína ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Dittmann, Robert (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is an analysis of syntactic perturbations in the oral production of Czech speakers of the Bigr village at the Banat region, Romania. In the theoretical part, this thesis describes the historical and linguistic context of the Banat's Czech villages, with special emphasis on Bigr. In the analytical part then, the thesis set out to test hypotheses based on previous research, using the BANAT language corpus created for this study. In cases where it deems possible, the results are compared to the ORAL language corpus of spoken Czech. The analysis verified the existence of certain phenomena of the Bigerian Czech (e.g. prepositional instrumental of instrument, omission of svůj pronoun), the frequency of which partly corresponds to the language situation in oral production in the Czech Republic (e.g. forward position of pronominal subject, reflexive se, si and auxiliary verb být). The presence of some other phenomena could not be verified.
A comparison of Czech villages Saint Helena and Rovensko in Romanian region of Banat: in areas of availability of transport, community facilities and spatial relationships of local residents
Kresl, Zdeněk ; Freidingerová, Tereza (advisor) ; Horálek, Adam (referee)
Saint Helena and Rovensko are two of six purely Czech municipalities on the Romanian side of Banat. Not very large Czech community has lived there for more than 200 years. Despite the long period of time and surrounding by other ethnics, mostly Romanians and Serbians, Banat Czechs have kept their language, traditions and connection to the Czech nation. After the year 1990, many Banat Czechs moved to Czechoslovakia and this migration flow continues to these days. Depopulation of the villages brings worries about the future. The first part of the paper is focused on history of Banat Czechs in the region and forms of aid from the Czech Republic. In the second part, there is described the current situation in both villages, which have been the objects of the research, regarding transport accessibility, local facilities and spatial relationships of local citizens. The second part stems from the research itself that includes also testimonials of local citizens. The comparison of results of the field research is in the conclusion.
